Tough Loss For Marsel

There is nothing to say, scoreline says it all. Marsel will play ATP 250 St. Petersburg next week. (probably will start from qualies again)

8 Ekim 2011 Cumartesi

Last Match For Shanghai Main Draw!

Again we kept quiet at the beginning of a tournament and Marsel defeated Matosevic with 63-60. He will face Cipolla, who at the moment holds the record this year about winning qualifying matches.

Also the singles draw is here. Possible opponent in the first round are Andujar, Cilic, Troicki, Roddick, Dimitrov, Robredo, Gong. The last two is ok.

And if Cipolla match is lost i really will believe we are jinxing him.

Come on Marsel!

Marsel in China Open Main Draw!

Marsel is in China Open and he made main draw with wins over Feng with 61-60 and Serra 76(7)-62. Seems like he got over from his İzmir final performance and went back to his form before the final. Last time we haven't been posting nor to jinx him but i didn't know that and ruined it i suppose. This time we didn't post till qualifying ended and here he is!

His draw is here. He got Lopez in the first round. Tough match but Marsel can handle it. In Marsel we trust!

Come on Marsel!

Marsel is Lost in The Final (Late Post)

This is a third time in a row runner-up position for Marsel in İzmir now. In the first set he was ahead with a break bur lost the set with a break in 5-4. He was broken in the beginning of the second and went 3-0 down. He was not broken again but he lost 4-6/3-6. He looked tense overall and threw his racquet down 3-4 times; unlikely of him. HE was focused for a win but this was an obstacle more then a help. Well at least he defended his points (only lost 5 points here).

He will play qualifying match on Saturday in Beijing China open ATP 500 tournament. Tomorrow his draw will be released and be here. LAst year he lost in the second round of elimination to Raonic and got 10 points. This time we expect him to make the main draw and win a match there. No worries, just keep on!

Marsel in The Final! (Late Post)

Marsel is in İzmir Cup final!

Marsel He beat young player Muhammet Haylaz in the first round with 61-60, then took Kutrovksi down with 75-61, Grigelis with 64-60 in quarters and Cipolla 63-64 in semis.

With those results he defended his position from last year. A win tomorrow means extra points. The weather conditions in İzmir didn't affect Marsel much, which is our luck. ,

Come on Marsel!

Marsel in Izmir!

After losing early in Istanbul, Marsel headed to Izmir for taking the title there. He lost two straight finals in Izmir at 2009 and 2010. He is playing today first on centre court against 15 years-old Muhammet Haylaz. He won the Under 16's Turkish National Championship. Surely, it will be Marsel's easiest match on his carreer.

Then he'll play Kutrovsky or Durmus in the second round.

From Ledovskikh Match

Sigh.. Clement withdrew but Marsel was beaten anyway; 61-36-63...

There was wind, the weather went colder and colder, Marsel couldn't concentrate. Nothing much to say really..

Report: Marsel vs. Dancevic

Here is the summary of Marsel's first round match against Dancevic. Thanks to MensTennisForums' member ibreak4coffee who is a Canadian guy for photos and this match report. It's really great to get some inside info. :)

Truth be told, Frank didn't look injured out there - he was simply being outplayed. Marsel was hitting winners and aces consistently and making Frank hit a ton of backhands, which in the only thing he was able to do consistently he was missing all the time. His serve was off, he was playing tentative, and the winners and confident play I saw against Clement were completely absent. His groundstrokes were coming up short, allowing Ilhan to dictate at will. The few times he attacked he was much more successful, but these moments were few and far between.

It felt like the match only lasted 30 minutes. I caught the first two sets, but left after the end of the second because it was simply a waste of my time to watch. So I missed the apparent medical timeout and/or injury break and didn't see the game before he retired. I videoed the game before he retired though and he's moving well. I will try and post tonight.

Credit to Marsel for some good tennis but this wasn't how Frank is capable of playing. These injuries must be so frustrating, seems he cant go more than a few weeks without injuring himself again. Must be frustrating as well to qualify four times and not win once - he wont get three very generous draws like he did at the French, Wimbledon, and US.

Marsel is in 2nd Round!

He was ahead in Dancevic match with 6-3/6-2/1-0 when his opponent retired with an injury. Marsel is in 2nd round!! That means 70 points!

Marsel Against Gawron

Marsel will play his first match against Marcin Gawron at US Open Qualifying. Gawron won a future tournament in Turkey this year. Gawron who is a Polish and world number 288, will play his first grand slam match.

Marsel is a huge favourite in this match-up. If he wins, he will play Vincent Millot or Zack Fleishman in the second round. His match against Gawron will start at 11 AM local time.

Marsel Lost To Dimitrov

Marsel lost to youngster Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov in the first round of Cincinnati Masters. Marsel couldn't return well and didn't had a single break point throughout the match. Grigor broke him at *2-3 in the first set and at *5-5 in the second set and won the match 6-3/7-5.

Marsel could be top 100 next week even with this loss... Now, we have the real goal: US Open Qualies. Marsel lost in the first round of qualifying last year there. He defends "zero" points, so he could gain a lot of points from this event since he made the second round at US Open coming from qualifying draw in 2009.

Qualifying draw will be held on next Monday and the first round matches will start a day later, on Tuesday. Good luck Marsel!

14 Ağustos 2011 Pazar

Marsel in the main draw!

After winning against Devvarman in the first round of Cincinnati qualifiacitions, Marsel beated Schoorel easily in straight sets. He was serving for the first set at *5-3 but he got broken. Though, he won that set in the tiebreak and was more relaxed in the second set. He broke two times Schoorel and finished the match with 7-6/6-3 scoreline.

Marsel will play his first match today on court #4. His opponent is youngster Grigor Dimitrov. Marsel never played against him but played doubles with him in Istanbul Challenger (2009 edition). Marsel and Grigor made the final but they lost in there.

Dimitrov certainly isn't in his best shape and Marsel has a great chance to get another win. If he wins, he will be top 100 player again. Good luck Marsel, you can do it!

Marsel Goes on in Cincinnati!

Marsel didn't get the withdrawal in Montreal and he passed to Cincinnati. There he had a much harder draw then Montreal and in the first round he beat Somdev Devvarman with 64-76(3), whom he faced in İzmir Cup final last year.

In the next round he will face Schoorel. He got the attention with the match he made with Federer at the beginning of the season, and he beat Nieminen in the first round here. It will not be an easy match but we trust Marsel.

Come on Marsel!

Marsel Waiting For Lucky Loser Spot

Marsel lost to Russell 5-7/2-6 after beating unknown American guy in the first round.

But he still has a chance to make the main draw. If anyone withdraws from main draw, Marsel will be in since he's the first player in the lucky loser order. We will hope for one withdraw. So, Marsel will stay in Montreal for another three days, at least. Good luck to him, hopefully he can gain main draw spot.

2 Ağustos 2011 Salı

Marsel Lost To Cipolla

Marsel lost to Flavio Cipolla in straight sets.

Marsel got broken and went down 0-2 in the beginning. Then he broke Cipolla two times in a row and got the *3-2 lead. Suddenly, he got broken again. Marsel faced set point on his serve at *5-6. He saved the first set point but got broken in the second.

After losing the tight first set, Marsel couldn't fight anymore in the second set. He got bagelled and lost early in Washington.

Can Uner who is Marsel's coach, just after the match said that Marsel was ill. Hopefully he can recover and can get ready for Canada Masters qualies. He will play there this weekend. Good luck Marsel!

Marsel is in Washington!

His draw is here!

After losing in 2nd round of Hamburg (you can ask the details abot it to Russell, he followed the matches :) ) he will join another ATP 500 event in Washington.

Marsel was not in elimination list and he attended as the 3rd alternate in this event. So no elimination points this time. To get 20 points he should beat Cipolla in the first round and we trust him. In the second round he will face seeded Tursunov, who is facing form issues at the moment .

Come on Marsel!

Marsel qualified for Hamburg!

Marsel lost to Eric Prodon in Sopot in straight sets and went to Hamburg for ATP 500 tournament. He played the qualifying at the weekend and got two easy wins against Puc and Navarro.

He will face Philipp Petzschner from Germany in the first round today. The match will start at 11.00AM local time and will be on centre court. Petzschner is the favourite for sure but Marsel has a chance. Good luck Marsel!

Marsel Lost in the Final :(

Darcis beated Marsel 6-3/4-6/6-2.

Darcis played good first set and Marsel made too much errors in the first. In the second set, Marsel saved BPs with good plays, then broke for the set. Start of the third set was weird and critical. Darcis had 2BPs. Marsel hits an ace and saves the first. Marsel hits another good first serve, dominated the point, came to the net and hits a deep volley. Steve just pushed it back with his racquet and got very lucky net-cord. From there on Steve dominated on serve and broke again in 4-2 and served it out.

Marsel is playing Sopot. His first match against Eric Prodon. The match will be played Tuesday. Good luck Marsel! (He needs to make semi-final for USO direct entry!)

9 Temmuz 2011 Cumartesi

Marsel in the Final!

Marsel beats Gensse 1-6/6-3/6-1 in the Scheveningen challenger semi final and makes the final. His opponent will be Dusan Lojda or Steve Darcis.

Marsel started bad and made unforced errors in the first set. In the second and third set he was very comfortable though. He even was up 5-0 in the second set but choked a little bit. He went early break up in the third set too and got easy win after losing the first set. He played really well in the last two sets but Gensse helped to him with cheap errors.

If Marsel wins tomorrow in the final, he will likely make the US Open main draw. Very important match for him, good luck to Marsel!

Marsel through to second round

Marsel beats Del Bonis in the first round of Schveningen challenger with 6-3/6-2. The match just lasted 65 minutes.

Marsel hasn't faced a single break point throughout the match and broke his opponent's serve three times. Marsel who is the first seed of the tournament, will face experienced Spaniard Daniel Munoz-De La Nava in the second round. 29 years-old Munoz is ranked #169 at the world ranking. Munoz had played in this tournament last year too and lost in the second round to Denis Gremalmayr.

3 Temmuz 2011 Pazar

Scheveningen Draw

Marsel is on clay in Netherlands this week. Draw is here.

His draw is tough for a no 1 seed. In the first round he will face clay courter Del Bonis from Argentine. In the second round he may face Spanish Munoz-de La Nava.

If Marsel can gather100 points in the next two weeks he may be on the main draw of US Open.

By the way there is stream from this tournament!

Go Marsel!

2nd Round: :(

Marsel went down to Donskoy after two close sets.

In this tournament Marsel was again on clay after lawn. Our expectations were high, but Donskoy had some other plans. After this match, he also eliminated Monte-Carlo quarter finalist Gil on rout to final .

Keep your heads up!

1st Round: Done!

Marsel first made us sad, but then happy. Let it be like this all the time. Score 46-63-63.
Marsel was broken both at the beginning of 2nd and 3rd sets but he came back. It's good that he can fight this well. It seems like but he served well but he only saved 2 break points; a stat to be improved, we think.
Go on Marsel!

Braunschweig Draw

Here!

The most dangerous player on Marsel's quarter is Gil. He is taking Minar on the first round. It would have been better if he played with one of those qualifiers on his quarter.

Surface is red clay.

Tennis Birthdays

Ilhan was actually born in Uzbekhistan, so the story of how he came to Turkey is probably pretty interesting. According to Wikipedia, his real name is “Marsel Khamdamov.” He moved to Turkey with his mother (his father is deceased) in 2004, after he’d already been playing the game about 10 years. In 2007, he leaped from No. 1327 to No. 320.

He has blossomed into a viable player the last couple of years, breaking into the top 100 at No. 87 just before the Australian Open this year.

On the ATP Tour web site, Ilhan states his ambition as “to finish inside the Top 100 for 10 consecutive years.” We like the reality he lives in.

He was the first Turkish played to win a Challenger, and the first to reach the second round of a Slam when he beat Christophe Rochus in a five-set thriller at the U.S. Open in 2009.

He defeated Tommy Haas (who had been returning from more than a year off) in the first round of the French Open this year, in four sets. Ilhan had moved through the qualifying to get there; he ended up losing in the second round to Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain – 13-11 in the fifth set but earned himself a nifty 25,000 Euros for his week’s work

It Didn't Happen

4-6/7-6/13-15.

Janowicz is a good server and he served well today. If Marsel wasn't broken 2 times in a row in the first set he may have won it. He broke right at the beginning of the third set after tie break but he couldn't convert his break points and he couldn't save the 5th match point.

Marsel needs to be a little more positive.

We trust him.

12 Haziran 2011 Pazar

Wimbledon Begins!

Marsel will play his first qualifying match in Wimbledon tomorrow. He will face against Polish youngster Jerzy Janowicz who has a really big serve. Janowicz could be a tricky opponent for Marsel but if Marsel can handle him well, the draw gets easier then.

Marsel Will Play With Hajek

Draw is here.

Our dreams have come true and Gasquet withdrew to give his spot to Marsel. Marsel will play first round with Hajek and in a possible 2nd round match he will face either Bellucci or Dimitrov. We are content with the draw.

Lets get some points!

2 Haziran 2011 Perşembe

Withdrawal Please!

Today Marsel was 3 players away from main draw. But a recent tweet told there is only 1 guy between Marsel and first draw.

We don't know which 2 players withdrew but we have some nominees in our minds for the remaining 1 player.

Withdrawal? Anyone???

News From Marsel

Here.

Quotes;

'This tournament and this match has been a great experience for me. I'll work better and represent Turkey better.''

Of course!

''My opponent was resistant. I was sure that i would win this match but it didn't happen. I couldn't convert a few break points. Those were the most important moments at the match. I lacked a little experience. My opponent played better in important moments. From now on i will gain more experience and convert those chances. ''

We are sure he will gain experience..

''Before the match he told it won't be easy. I beat him before in Rotterdam. Lopez was ambitious in this match.''

Meh, he is Spanish and surface is red clay...

''I wanted to win this match but it didn't happen. I wanted to go to at least fourth round. Next year i'll work harder''

Let it be what's best for you :(

''I'we been playing well lately. Especially i improved my serve. I hit 50 ace in this tournament, I'm leading the serve statistics now. But i will improve more''

Wimbledon! Wait for Marsel!

Marsel threw his racquet several times in the match but he told he would stay calmer and won't do that often from now on. This is what we expect from him. If he can stay calmer he won't miss that much of opportunities.

And his next tournament is Queens! Yay!

We Won

G.Garcia-Lopez d. M.Ilhan 6-4/1-6/6-2/4-6/13-11

Nothing much to tell about match, score speaks for itself.

We won a lot of things with this match, world heard of Marsel and Turkey too...

Let me write about why we started this blog. As you can remember at the beginning of this season things were not going as planned for Marsel. Russell and i were sad, because we knew he was more than that. Those results were nor fair, at least we felt that way. We were talking about what could someone do and we came up with this blog idea. Maybe people would click and recognize him, maybe Marsel would see and feel supported... Of couse it sounds silly but we just wanted to do something.

Today was a day that we felt we were so right about our thoughts of Marsel. According to the things we heard Marsel's calf went purple during second set and he had a time our, but you couldn't tell it from scoreline because he fought that way. In the final set he spent many break points partly due to his lack of movement because od the injury. Do we care? No.

Today we won many things. First of all, we got hope. We got faith and we learnt being patient and working hard pays off.

With this serve, patience and will we expect more from him in Wimbledon . Come on Marsel!

From the match with Niland
From the match with Haas

Marsel Won!

Yay! He beat Tommy Haas 64-46-76(1)-64.

It was a pretty close match with Haas hanging on quite well. Marsel went up to 5-1 on the firt set but could close it on second attempt on his serve. Then Haas started with a break of serve but than Marsel won 4 straight games ans score went to 4-2 on the second. Then, it was Haas's turn to win 4 games in a row and he closed the set. Marsel played a wonderful tie break on third and broke when Haas was serving to stay in the match on the fourth and here we go!

He will play G. Garcia-Lopez next.

Come on Marsel!

Marsel's blog says after 2 days of intensive treatmet, swelling on Marsel's calf is gone.

They also told us he did a mild training session yesterday and an intensive one with Bogomolov today and he is ready for his match.

They also believe he has a good chance to win his match if the injury doesn't show up again. His match is the first one on court 17 on Monday.

Yay!

20 Mayıs 2011 Cuma

Unlucky Lucky Loser

Marsel started day with saddening us.

In the match he played with Gensse he fell behind with 5-3 but broke back only to be broken again to lose the set. Sigh, we could still win the others. Then he was broken in the second game. But we didn't give up. Then on the first point of the third game the play stopped... We waited... Waited... Only to see Marsel loosing one point after another and two straight games. We were almost certain that he fell, which was the case as TTF told with a tweet.

But than a happier new came around. Not only Marsel was a LL but also he was going to play the first round with Haas who didn't play professional singles a match for more than 1 year.

Now every thing depends on to the fact that the swelling on Marsel's calf shoul be gone. Get well soon Marsel!

1 Step Left!

Today Marsel beat Matosevic with 62-63 and went to final tour of elemination!

It was a stress-free match. Marsel started with a break and went up to 4-0. Then there were no breaks till the 4th game of the second set. Marsel broke to love at this point and got the first match point at advantage on 9th game to win the match.

His rival will be the winner of Gensse - Bautista Agut match that is being played now . Gensse is ahead now but whoever comes, i guess Marsel holds the advantage.

See you in main draw Marsel!

Marsel Passed the First Test

He beat Niland with 76 (6) and 64, which was expected! He broke early in the first set but got broken right back. In the second set again he got an early break but never looked back this time. Except for the game he was broken, he didn't face break points and he put pressure on his opponents serve during the match.

Second, he will play Matosevic.

Match will probably be played on Thursday.

Keep an eye on Marsel!

Marsel beats Devilder yesterday in his second round qualifying match at Belgrade. The score was 3-6 7-6 6-1 exactly. Devilder was serving for the match in the second set but Marsel broke him serve and took the set in the tiebreaker. In the final set, he was very comfortable and won it easily.

Marsel needs one more win for Belgrade main draw. He'll play against Adrian Ungur today. Show your best, Marsel!

So close but wasn't meant to be. Score is 64-57-67(5)

Marsel was relaxed in the first set and he won it with one break of serve. Right at the beginning of the second set he was broken but he broke back. We were expecting a tie-break but he couldn't hold his serve to stay in the set. In the third he broke, then got broken, broke again and got broken again. In the tie-break game he went up to 5-2 but it just didn't happen.

Sigh... Let whatever be the that's best for him...

Marsel at Barcelona

Marsel is playing in Barcelona qualifications this weekend. He played his first match yesterday against Spanish wildcard Ignacio Coll-Riudavets and won pretty easily. (6-2, 6-2) Didn't faced a single break point on his serve.

Today, in his second match of the qualifications, he'll play against Benoit Paire. Frenchman beat Conor Niland in his first match with 4-6/6-0/6-3. Marsel and Paire didn't play before in their carreers. Winnable match for Marsel. Come on!

Marsel Lost In Quarters Again

Marsel lost his quarter final match in Rome Rai Open Challenger to Ivo Minar with 3-6/4-6. The match was pretty fast, actually. It just lasted 57 minutes.

In the first set, Marsel started pretty bad and got broken two times in a row. After being down 1-5, he played his best return game in the match to break Minar. But in his second try, Minar served out the set, 6-3. Marsel played much better in the beginning of the second set but couldn't find a break point on Minar's serve. At the 3-3, he played once bad service game and got broken. Minar holds quickly on his serve for two times to snatch the win.

Marsel looked very relaxed in the match. He didn't looked careful about losing the match... Anyway, he got 15 points for his run at Rome. He will stay in top 110 next week. Now, mission Barcelona!

Rome Draw

We don't have any lack of excitement these days!

Rome Draw is here. Beck, who troubled Marsel in Monza is at the other half of the draw. Task seems easier this time.

Guess what would playing finals would mean for him?

Go Marsel!

Marsel Lost in Quarters

Marsel lost to Beck with 46-76(5)-16 and left Monza.

Beck was playing well in this tournaments according to some viewers. People told in the third set he made some weird unforced errors. We would be very happy if some viewers commented about the match here. :)

We caught Marsel in Barcelona's player list. He also played here last year. He seems to be surrounded by clay courters there...

No matter what Marsel started his clay season with 2 wins and i think he'll get better as he plays.

Show them Marsel!

Edit: But he will be playing Rome Challenger before Barcelona. Stay tuned for his draw.

Marsel continues his run at Monza

Marsel just beats Romania's Victor Crivoi in straight sets at the second round of Monza Challenger (6-2 7-6). His quarter final opponent will be Lukasz Kubot or Andreas Beck. Both of them were top 100 players, but now they're out of top 100 because of injury and form issues. So, they want to get their form and top 100 spots back and both will be tough and dangerous opponents for Marsel.

We watched this match by the agency of live stream. Marsel breaks Crivoi's serve early in the first set. But Crivoi got break back quickly. Marsel breaks him once again and this time he holds his service game easily and got up 4-1 in the first. End of the set, Marsel, who continued playing and serving very well, got another break mostly due to Crivoi's unforced errors. (6-2)

Marsel saved a break point in the opening game of the second set and got break up again, 3-1. Just like the first set, he got broken back quickly. Later of that set, while Crivoi holding easily on his service games, Marsel was always in the trouble. He saved two break points at 5-5, then played a good tiebreak to snatch the match (7-4).

Marsel played better in this match. Especially, he was playing very limited unforced errors, was making good returns and was serving very well until the middle of the second set. If he plays final in here, probably he'll get direct main draw spot for Roland Garros. We needs another two matches. Come on Marsel!

No Marsel in Doubles

... like there is no Marsel there.

Today we waited for his doubles match but it never started. In OOP it was right after Pospisil-Olaso match. When we checked tomorrow's OOP we saw Battistone-Huey team would be playing Reister-Robert team.

We hope there is not a problem... Marsel will be playing on center court in 3rd match tomorrow. Session will start at 11am.

Marsel? Are you there???

Edit: TTF Announced this was because of Rosol's health issues.
