Report: Marsel vs. Dancevic

Here is the summary of Marsel's first round match against Dancevic. Thanks to MensTennisForums' member ibreak4coffee who is a Canadian guy for photos and this match report. It's really great to get some inside info. :)

Truth be told, Frank didn't look injured out there - he was simply being outplayed. Marsel was hitting winners and aces consistently and making Frank hit a ton of backhands, which in the only thing he was able to do consistently he was missing all the time. His serve was off, he was playing tentative, and the winners and confident play I saw against Clement were completely absent. His groundstrokes were coming up short, allowing Ilhan to dictate at will. The few times he attacked he was much more successful, but these moments were few and far between.

It felt like the match only lasted 30 minutes. I caught the first two sets, but left after the end of the second because it was simply a waste of my time to watch. So I missed the apparent medical timeout and/or injury break and didn't see the game before he retired. I videoed the game before he retired though and he's moving well. I will try and post tonight.

Credit to Marsel for some good tennis but this wasn't how Frank is capable of playing. These injuries must be so frustrating, seems he cant go more than a few weeks without injuring himself again. Must be frustrating as well to qualify four times and not win once - he wont get three very generous draws like he did at the French, Wimbledon, and US.

Marsel is in 2nd Round!

He was ahead in Dancevic match with 6-3/6-2/1-0 when his opponent retired with an injury. Marsel is in 2nd round!! That means 70 points!

Some rare tweets from the match like;

Marsel Against Gawron

Marsel will play his first match against Marcin Gawron at US Open Qualifying. Gawron won a future tournament in Turkey this year. Gawron who is a Polish and world number 288, will play his first grand slam match.

Marsel is a huge favourite in this match-up. If he wins, he will play Vincent Millot or Zack Fleishman in the second round. His match against Gawron will start at 11 AM local time.

It Didn't Happen

4-6/7-6/13-15.

Janowicz is a good server and he served well today. If Marsel wasn't broken 2 times in a row in the first set he may have won it. He broke right at the beginning of the third set after tie break but he couldn't convert his break points and he couldn't save the 5th match point.

Marsel needs to be a little more positive.

We trust him.

Wimbledon Begins!

Marsel will play his first qualifying match in Wimbledon tomorrow. He will face against Polish youngster Jerzy Janowicz who has a really big serve. Janowicz could be a tricky opponent for Marsel but if Marsel can handle him well, the draw gets easier then.

News From Marsel

Here.

Quotes;

'This tournament and this match has been a great experience for me. I'll work better and represent Turkey better.''

Of course!

''My opponent was resistant. I was sure that i would win this match but it didn't happen. I couldn't convert a few break points. Those were the most important moments at the match. I lacked a little experience. My opponent played better in important moments. From now on i will gain more experience and convert those chances. ''

We are sure he will gain experience..

''Before the match he told it won't be easy. I beat him before in Rotterdam. Lopez was ambitious in this match.''

Meh, he is Spanish and surface is red clay...

''I wanted to win this match but it didn't happen. I wanted to go to at least fourth round. Next year i'll work harder''

Let it be what's best for you :(

''I'we been playing well lately. Especially i improved my serve. I hit 50 ace in this tournament, I'm leading the serve statistics now. But i will improve more''

Wimbledon! Wait for Marsel!

Marsel threw his racquet several times in the match but he told he would stay calmer and won't do that often from now on. This is what we expect from him. If he can stay calmer he won't miss that much of opportunities.

And his next tournament is Queens! Yay!

We Won

G.Garcia-Lopez d. M.Ilhan 6-4/1-6/6-2/4-6/13-11

Nothing much to tell about match, score speaks for itself.

We won a lot of things with this match, world heard of Marsel and Turkey too...

Let me write about why we started this blog. As you can remember at the beginning of this season things were not going as planned for Marsel. Russell and i were sad, because we knew he was more than that. Those results were nor fair, at least we felt that way. We were talking about what could someone do and we came up with this blog idea. Maybe people would click and recognize him, maybe Marsel would see and feel supported... Of couse it sounds silly but we just wanted to do something.

Today was a day that we felt we were so right about our thoughts of Marsel. According to the things we heard Marsel's calf went purple during second set and he had a time our, but you couldn't tell it from scoreline because he fought that way. In the final set he spent many break points partly due to his lack of movement because od the injury. Do we care? No.

Today we won many things. First of all, we got hope. We got faith and we learnt being patient and working hard pays off.

With this serve, patience and will we expect more from him in Wimbledon . Come on Marsel!

From the match with Niland
From the match with Haas

Marsel Won!

Yay! He beat Tommy Haas 64-46-76(1)-64.

It was a pretty close match with Haas hanging on quite well. Marsel went up to 5-1 on the firt set but could close it on second attempt on his serve. Then Haas started with a break of serve but than Marsel won 4 straight games ans score went to 4-2 on the second. Then, it was Haas's turn to win 4 games in a row and he closed the set. Marsel played a wonderful tie break on third and broke when Haas was serving to stay in the match on the fourth and here we go!

He will play G. Garcia-Lopez next.

Come on Marsel!

Marsel's blog says after 2 days of intensive treatmet, swelling on Marsel's calf is gone.

They also told us he did a mild training session yesterday and an intensive one with Bogomolov today and he is ready for his match.

They also believe he has a good chance to win his match if the injury doesn't show up again. His match is the first one on court 17 on Monday.

Yay!

Unlucky Lucky Loser

Marsel started day with saddening us.

In the match he played with Gensse he fell behind with 5-3 but broke back only to be broken again to lose the set. Sigh, we could still win the others. Then he was broken in the second game. But we didn't give up. Then on the first point of the third game the play stopped... We waited... Waited... Only to see Marsel loosing one point after another and two straight games. We were almost certain that he fell, which was the case as TTF told with a tweet.

But than a happier new came around. Not only Marsel was a LL but also he was going to play the first round with Haas who didn't play professional singles a match for more than 1 year.

Now every thing depends on to the fact that the swelling on Marsel's calf shoul be gone. Get well soon Marsel!

1 Step Left!

Today Marsel beat Matosevic with 62-63 and went to final tour of elemination!

It was a stress-free match. Marsel started with a break and went up to 4-0. Then there were no breaks till the 4th game of the second set. Marsel broke to love at this point and got the first match point at advantage on 9th game to win the match.

His rival will be the winner of Gensse - Bautista Agut match that is being played now . Gensse is ahead now but whoever comes, i guess Marsel holds the advantage.

See you in main draw Marsel!

Marsel Passed the First Test

He beat Niland with 76 (6) and 64, which was expected! He broke early in the first set but got broken right back. In the second set again he got an early break but never looked back this time. Except for the game he was broken, he didn't face break points and he put pressure on his opponents serve during the match.

Second, he will play Matosevic.

Match will probably be played on Thursday.

Keep an eye on Marsel!
